Boggan's triple ends 3-OT thriller

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

01/17/2007 - Stillwater, OK (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Mario Boggan did a freshman one better in a conference thriller, draining a contested three-pointer with 3.2 seconds left to end 55 minutes of Big 12 basketball in 12th-ranked Oklahoma State's 105-103 victory over No. 21 Texas from Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The final three-plus seconds included a walk and an in-bound formality, capping a game featuring clutch shooting, massive momentum swings and Cowboys head coach Sean Sutton almost fainting at the end of regulation.

If he only knew 15 more minutes were in store.

Kevin Durant, who tied a career-high with 37 points, collected an air ball and scored off the glass while being fouled with 10.5 ticks remaining in the third overtime. He drained the foul shot to push Texas in front, 103-102.

The Cowboys eventually got the ball to Boggan at the top of the left wing with two Longhorns surrounding him. He shook the first defender then double- clutched his shot to avoid the outstretched arms of the second player.

Just 5-of-33 from beyond the arc entering the game, Boggan's three trumped Durant's conventional three-point possession, handing the Longhorns (13-4, 3-1 Big 12) their first conference loss.

Boggan's shot capped a 37-point, 20-rebound performance, continuing his stellar senior season. He entered the contest averaging a team-leading 21 points and 7.1 rebounds per game and shooting just over 60 percent from the floor.

JamesOn Curry totaled 28 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Terrel Harris scored 16 points and Byron Eaton added 11 points for the Cowboys (16-2, 2-1), who improved to 11-0 on Eddie Sutton court.

D.J. Augustin contributed 19 points, nine assists and seven rebounds and Justin Mason totaled 18 points for Texas. Damion James collected 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Durant added 12 boards in the loss.

Augustin's three-pointer with 21 seconds left in regulation sent the game to overtime -- the first of three extra sessions.

The guard made the pivotal shot again in the waning stages of the first overtime, converting a layup to square the contest at 83-83 with 13 seconds on the clock.

David Monds' heave from the right corner didn't draw iron, and an offensive putback occurred about one second after the horn.

The Cowboys seized a 91-88 edge in the second overtime on Boggan's mid-range jumper, but Durant -- who made 4-of-12 threes on the contest -- connected from near the top of the circle to tie the game.

Tyler Hatch -- a walk-on surrounded on the floor by a group of high school All-Americans -- attempted to stamp a feel-good story on the contest by making a reverse layup to put the Cowboys up 93-91 with 43 seconds left.

It was for naught, as Durant answered with a dunk to tie the game again, eventually forcing the third extra session.

Curry started it with a three-pointer then Harris buried two free throws to open a 98-93 advantage.

However, as proven much earlier in the night, no lead was safe.

Durant made 1-of-2 free throws then Mason drilled a contested three from the right wing to draw the Longhorns within one.

After a Boggan jumper, Connor Atchley raced down a loose ball and connected from long distance to make the score 100-100 with 1:55 on the clock.

Curry then made a pair of free throws before the frantic finish.

The Cowboys led 38-36 at the half.

Game Notes

The all-time series is tied at 34-34...Texas had 34 second chance points, while the Cowboys only mustered 20...The game featured 15 ties and 16 lead changes...Neither team lead by more than seven points...Oklahoma State shot 52.4 percent over the course of three overtimes...Texas attempted 33 three- pointers...Both teams committed 20 turnovers.

Football Betting: Defensive Rookie of the Year Awards

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.

Bet on NFL Football

Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.

Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.

Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.

Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.

All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.

A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.

American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6

The online gambling websites are in the process of deciphering each American Idol contestant and his or her chances of winning Season 6 to come up with the early American Idol betting lines.

Tim Dalton of MySportsbook.com has been locked away in a soundproof room coming up with all the latest tallies, we are told. "American Idol has become one of the most significant betting events of the year," claims Jack Black of MySportsbook.com.  "Last year, millions were bet during the season across the globe, not just in America.

It's tough early on since we really do not have a glimpse as to how well each of these individuals will perform solo on a week-to-week basis.  It's like Week 1 of the NFL.  Pre-season means nada!

We do know the 24 finalists however.

Sanjaya Malakar is the young man whose sister failed to make it into the Top 24.  He's very low key but - unless he totally flubs - will probably win over the young girlie vote for a few weeks anyway.  He's too young to go all the way, according to Payton O'Brien.

Brandon Rogers - Who?

Phil Stacy is the military guy who missed his daughter's birth because of the Memphis audition.  He should go a good distance.

Chris Sligh - He's got the humor and in many ways he's the Anti-American Idol much like last year's winner Taylor Hicks was.  And this is why he'll probably get pretty far in this competition.  He's chubby, white with a big curly afro....but more importantly, a great voice!  People love "real", not "real cute" to go all the way.

"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks.  He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes.  But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.

A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”

Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes.

"I love the fact that there is a Korean American on the show and he is bound to get more Asians tuning into the show," Woo said from her Miami Beach estate.  "There has never been a major presence of Asian-Americans on American Idol in the past.  He's a hottie with a nice voice so that should help to take him far.  Expect heavy betting action from the Asian community."

Sundance Head - He's not perfect, but he's got the personality that will take him through a few weeks, plus he's got the lineage (son of Roy Head - whose 1965 single, "Treat Her Right," hit No. 5 in the charts)

And the others:

Rudy Cardinas
AJ Tabaldo - the 5th time is the charm
Nicolas Pedro
Chris Richardson
Jared Cotter

The girls

"Melinda Doolittle has one of the best voices," says MySportsbook.com Reporter and an acclaimed dancer in her own right, Destiney Lewis.  "It is great to see a back up singer step out like she has.  The girl needs to gain more confidence but that can also be a positive.  I think she will go far."

Alena Alexander - Those tears (she never seems to stop bawling) should get her far.

"Single mom Lakisha Jones I suspect will be a pretty big favorite entering Week 1 of the competition," says Destiny Williams.  Jones is an excellent singer and down to earth.  "She'll have a wide appeal," echoed O'Brien.

Nicole Trellis - Seems to exert confidence.

Amy Krebs - a powerful singer.

Antonella Barba
Gina Glocksen
Hailey Scanardo
Jordan Sparks
Stephanie Edwards
Leslie Hunt
Sabrina Sloan
